The Austrian Citizenship Days are an annual nationwide campaign (each year between 23 April and 9 May) with the aim to raise and strengthen public awareness for citizenship education in Austria. The initiative of the Austrian Federal Ministry of Education cooperates with important educational players in the field and is coordinated by polis – The Austrian Centre for Citizenship Education in Schools. The #atpb24 will take place in both digital and analogue formats. The target group is anyone interested in political education. One focus is on events for teachers and school classes.
Thematic focus 2024:
Democracy, human rights & the rule of law – 75 years of the Council of Europe
- Europe is the focus of the 2024 Austrian Citizenship Days, with the 75th anniversary of the founding of the Council of Europe on 5 May, the oldest European confederation of states, of which all 27 EU member states are members.
- At the same time, the Europe Week around Europe Day will be used as an opportunity to focus on the EU-wide elections to the European Parliament from 6 to 9 June.
- Finally, the 35th anniversary of the fall of the Iron Curtain provides an opportunity to look back on this decisive year in Europe’s past.
As always, you will find many events for teachers and multipliers, as well as programmes aimed directly at pupils.
The range of publications for the Citizenship Education 2024 extends from work on Europe to game-based learning.
