From October 28, 2021, the conference of the NECE – Networking European Citizenship Education Platform will take place in Brussels and online. Zentrum polis is represented with two sessions:
Beyond Us and Them: How to counter polarisation and radicalization
Our democracies are in a critical situation. Authoritarianism, polarisation and radicalisation threaten the social cohesion of European societies. This makes it all the more important to develop and promote competences for democracy. As part of “Resilience Through Education for Democratic Citizenship” project (funded by the Council of Europe and the EU Commission), we invite all interested experts and practitioners for an interactive workshop, where methods of citizenship education and prevention of anti-democratic phenomena in social and youth work will be discussed and exchanged. During this event we will share experiences and discuss our project results using participatory formats of work.

Teaching Citizenship Education? The challenges of competences, assessment renewal and policy implementation
The workshop will investigate some of the challenges of Citizenship Education, with a particular focus on missing teachers’ competences. The workshop will represent an opportunity to share opinions, inputs and practices in the field of CE and will have the final objective of providing suggestions for policy improvement. The conversation will start from a brief presentation of the research results identified during the first period of implementation of the project CITIZED. The project, co-funded by the European Union, aims at developing an innovative set of instruments that will help the widespread implementation of citizenship education policies in European education systems.
