We mourn the loss of Hannes Tretter

Dear members and friends of the Vienna Forum,

The Vienna Forum must announce the passing of our friend and long-time colleague Hannes Tretter. His departure is a sad loss to us. He worked tirelessly and enthusiastically for human rights and was a role model and supporter, companion and inspiration to those around him. Those who knew him are aware of his endeavours to give the world a different face and his life’s work of opposing inhumanity with human rights protection and a living democracy. Whether as a highly competent lawyer and scientist, as a teacher and supporter of young people, as an author, passionate panellist or as a sailor across the seas that he loved so much. Hannes, we thank you for everything.

In memoriam

In May, the Vienna Forum, his last place of work, is organising a symposium dedicated to Hannes Tretter and his last research project “On the protection of democracy and human rights”. We will inform you of the venue and time as soon as possible.

In loving memory and gratitude
