This shadow report is a central contribution to the strengthening of women’s rights in Austria and emphasises the necessity of political, legal and social measures to consistently promote gender equality. The report was prepared specifically for the Pre-Sessional Working Group as part of the tenth review cycle for the implementation of the UN Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW). The aim is to highlight key issues and pressing questions that should be included in the List of Issues Prior to Reporting.
The report was coordinated by the Litigation Association of NGOs against Discrimination in close cooperation with the Austrian Women’s Ring, the umbrella organisation of Austrian women’s organisations. The report combines the perspectives and expertise of numerous NGOs and experts in women’s rights who are working together for a society in which equality becomes a reality.
With this report, the participating organisations are sending a strong signal: the consistent implementation of CEDAW is not only an obligation under international law, but also a social necessity. The report appeals to political decision-makers and the public to recognise women’s rights as the foundation of solidarity, justice and sustainable development and to actively promote them.
